I work with clients who have a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues, providing services that span from therapy for depression and grief counseling to parenting support, couples counseling and life crises. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my client's individual needs to help attain personal growth.
Many people are seeking comfort, understanding, happiness, purpose, meaning and value. I believe that having the opportunity to be heard without judgment or criticism is the first step in the right direction. The focus of counseling is lead by the goals of the client. Understanding the client's perceptions, beliefs and experiences are important in determining the best interventions for each.
Premarital
When a couple is considering marriage, the focus of counseling is to provide information that may help the couple develop realistic expectations of their future marriage relationship. According to research, good premarital preparation can reduce the divorce rate by building stronger marriages. Some of the areas of concentration in premarital counseling may included:
-
identifying strengths, as well as areas needing growth
-
strengthening communication skills
-
identifying and managing major stressors
-
resolving conflicts
-
understanding personality differences
-
understanding and balancing differences due to family of origin influences
As a Twogether in Texas service provider, I provides a premarital counseling program that meets the requirements of the Texas Health Marriage Initiative. Couples who complete the counseling requirements will receive a Twogether in Texas certificate which will allow them to save $60 on the cost of their marriage license, and the 72-hour waiting period between license and marriage will be waived.
I am certified to facilitate Prepare/Enrich, an online assessment tool for couples who are planning marriage, as well as those who have been married for many years. Questions are customized to fit the unique stage and structure of the couple's relationship and results are discussed over the course of approximately nine counseling sessions. Ten relationship areas are assessed including communication, conflict resolution, partner styles and habits, financial management, sexuality and affection, family and friends and spirituality. Marriage or Couples Counseling
Two individuals, from two life experiences come together in marriage, and it is often a matter of time before expectations, beliefs and family styles clash. If left unresolved, criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling may damage the relationship. Our view of the relationship as its own entity, approaches the issues the couple is experiencing as relational instead of individual ones. Some of the areas of concentration in marriage or couples counseling may include:
-
family of origin issues
-
conflict management
-
trust and respect
-
communication
-
parenting
-
financial
-
sexual
-
leisure activities and friends
-
spiritual beliefs
